January 1st  Adam & I  gave sheep  neeps then to hill to hares....  Lizzie  McWilliam  left  today & I am not a bit Sorry but  rather glad  for she is really a dirty pig, Mrs Shearer acting  as housekeeper  meantime.

2nd Wednesday ....thrashed at night  little  Mary loused  to mill she is a splendid  louser

11th I at Rhynie with Kate in gig a houskeeper Jane Wight @ £6”5...

15th ... Adam thatching byre a.m.

17th  Adam ploughing all day  at old lea ... Reid cutting rashes for John Sheed callers Rev G McMillan  Mary Giles John Souter Jnr & Reid fine fresh day

18th... I in hill measuring fence between The Duke & Ogston Kildrummy.... Jas Reid got Mains of Elrick spring cart & brought  his mother to Fit of Buck today

19th ... woman left noon unknown to anyone  Mary came up & made  supper & milked

24th .... engaged Maggie Taylor to come until I got another...

25th .... had a fine ewe choked on a turnip head

28th ... got Bracklachs  pet  lamb in burn of Culwine near starved...  Maggie Taylor  came noon

29th Bad stormy day... Maggie Taylor left noon...Ligertwood’s cart did not come today... I milked & did the cooking

February  3rd Sunday  visitors Jas Reid Jas Dawson Mrs Shearer & little  Adam

7th Thursday   Adam away to Rhynie to meet woman she did not come

12th  .... Reid at Bracklach got his licks at brod

14th  Adam away to Rhynie for Jane Cooper... country white with snow as far as I  could see from top of Buck

15th  Adam & I sorted beasts  & neeped sheep & thrashed twice Harry Nicoll away to Glen kindy today  Adam & I pulled neeps  p.m. Bracks Wm Beattie & Wm Kellases  sledges  at Rhynie for coals to school Jane Cooper came to Howbog with John Souter

19th ... Peter Scotts funeral he was taken in a sledge from Smithston road, aged  83 years..

26th ... p.m. reid at Whitehillocks for tobacco for us all him  Adam & I at Bracklach  at our bannocks  tonight Bracklach  quey  calved  calf dead

28th ... Wm Beattie at man Taylor’s funeral aged 71 years  left a lot of money

March  1st A fearful bad  day... gave sheep 24 wisps of straw & took in a lot of peats for Jane

4th ... Kate to Lumsden  market she took ill before I got to Rhynie  had to get Farrier to her.. stopped at Grants with mare all night

5th I paid Farrier £1 brought Kate up to mill of Lismore left her there  got their shilt to come home  with a fearful bad night home by 8 pm.m walked from below Blackhills  round by Howbog & Powneed  till Culwine . I feel very tired.

7th ...  Adam rode down Johnnie Smith’s shilt & brought home Kate ... Reid round amongst the folks seeking men to clear the rods of snow

14th  I not well unable to get up I went to bed after I sorted beasts in the morning chap Gordon here wanting work he sorted horse noon & Reid at night & Jane the cattle very fine day

20th ... Kate very lame on fore feet

26th ...at Whitehillocks for syrup...

27th ... Peter Gordon  Reekimlane  round with Census papers  p.m.

31st  Sunday ... I took worsted thread out of Jammie Gordon’s  hand

April 1st ... Peter Gordon  round collecting Census papers

9th & 10th no entry

13th ... I paid Petrie £5 & Jane Cooper £2

19th  Adam broke in old lea a.m. & sowed it 1.5 qrs  & Jane Daun carried  then  Adam harrowing  p.m. I busy among ewes put yeld sheep in far hill very warm day

21st Sunday  .....Mr & Mrs Gauld at Fit of Buck today   Lizzie  Reid’s child baptised Isabella

24th ...  Adam sowing &  Lizzie  Reid carrying seed ...

30th  & 1st May no entry

May 10th  Adam sowed 3 qrs bought seed in clean ground at this side Jane Daun carried seed ... I finished laying of drain p.m.

13th ....  Lizzie  Reid carried seed... very fine warm day

22nd ..... Mrs Shearer delivered of a son this morning no Dr required

24th ... I at George Ritchies &  Mary Duncan’s marriage the bigest  I was ever at a most splendid  affair

28th ....  Lizzie  Reid & Jockie Inglis came  tonight

31st Jock & I fencing a.m. & p.m.  has new grass fenced  ready  for cattle   Adam dragging above & below

June 3rd   Adam  at Lumsden  holding  his  term Jockie Jamieson harrowing & linking all day  Jock  gathering weeds p.m.

11th  ... had to stop for rain... to mill for dogs hash  Jane Reid’s kist & wool bags

27th   Adam in bed unwell Jockie in moss a.m. at dockings & thistles p.m. ... stalion round none of the mares would take him  paid him £1”5

July 3rd ... John Kellas & Jane Yeats married today  &  Adam Shearer’s  son Wm  christened  p.m. a very warm day

6th Saturday  Adam & Jockie in moss all day. I at school at three meetings  meeting about dressmaking & new road to Powneed & picnic. Kirkton clipped  his ewes  tonight  badly with maggots

10th Stallion round today for last time Love served again ... I took Love & rode to Auchmair paid man for lettering grave  stone 4/10 thunder & rain tonight

12th ran neeps & atarted hoe 4 hoes awhile  Adam  Jock  Lizzie  Mrs Shearer & myself...  Lizzie  & Jane Reid at concert  4 a clock next morning  before they were  home

13th ... Jock   Lizzie  & I at picnic... a chap Blackhall &  Lizzie  were very sweet on each other they stuck so close all day one would have thought they were glued together & Jane reid & chap Taylor do

August 1st  Adam finished cutting of hay & Jock & him finished setting up peats  a.m. a great  rain p.m. ... Dr Grant here seeing me And he gave my housekeeper Something on Sofa she wont forget before he left. This Cabrach  market  day.

5th ... I still in bed. visitors Miss Law  a man 2 women & children   Jane  Reid at Rhynie at Dr

6th .... 3 men started to make new road from Powneed to Lodge  today ...

8th  Adam & Jock carted home bedding a.m. rickling up peats p.m.  Lizzie  pulling berries & I working in garden weeding kale & thinning carrots p.m. fine day

12th  Monday I at Dufftown with Kate in gig Mrs Shearer at  Dr Innes with her baby. 6 p.m. before we got away from Dufftown  got a short chimney can from Wilson price to be 1/2   Adam carting his own peats

17th  Wm Kellas  Adam & Jock taking in Reid’s peats has them all in   Adam’s mother, brother wife & child  calling on them. Mr &  Mrs Melvin & child at Fit of Buck ,came on rain at night

28th  Thrashed  twice today cutting bedding a.m. & p.m.  not a very good day Rob Simpson here at night seeing  Lizzie   he would not go home with Jane Reid it is Liz  he is after but she is afraid he  would be of little use in supplying her wants.

September 1st  Sunday Visitors J Reid  Jane Reid Mr & Mrs Fettas & a neighbour woman over with a spring cart  Lizzie  turned sick & had to bed before dinner time   Mary milked cow at night & Monday  morning

14th Saturday   Adam & Jock working at dam  finished ditch I at Dufftown  with  Lizzie  reid to Dr Innes had Kate in gig

October 7th Snowing & raining all day & a fearful wind cutting & taking up tares a.m.  Adam to Elrick & Blackhills p.m. & Jock raking .  Lizzie  in her bed all day...

10th  I at Dufftown sales had  Lizzie   over to  Dr Innes

November 25th  sent Jock to Wm Smith with my withdrawl from Parish Council this morning ...

26th ... I at mill for meal a.m. millert said we wanted 1st of 5 bolls out of 4 qrs  of 41lbs  corn per bushel...

28th  This term day. I took up my carrots  a most splendid  crop took bagful into house & rest into pit in garden

30th   Adam & Jockie away at Lumsden & Rhynie holding  their term.  Jock, Jamie & I carted in all the headed neeps  somewhere about 30 loads  fine day but windy.  Jane McRobb came p.m. &  Lizzie   Reid left tonight

December  2nd ...  Reid away at Lumsden taking house for his mother...  Lizzie  at bank feeing

6th  Reid & I at Lumsden with his mother & her things  had the two carts

7th  Adam ploughing stibble  I cutting rashes  in back park  a.m.  I at Powneed for Wm Kellas skim culterp.m. Wm Dawson  bought a mare 7 Jas Dawson a colt  & brought home both from the same man   Lizzie   Reid home to Bank tonight

23rd  Lizzie  Reid came from Bank tonight

25th Took sledge to Howtown Mrs Shearer & Jas Reid went with me & John Souter  riding. Reid went on to Lumsden.  Mrs Shearer & I got splendid dinner at Howtown  had very ill getting home came on such a night of snow

31st I to Howtown for new sledge  A strong fresh & water big  I stuck in burn of Culwine with sledge  & all went to bottom  but I got safe out with mare.
